Many North Carolinians Have Little Faith in Insurers Protecting Their Best Interests
By Consumers for Quality Care, on May 3, 2023
A new poll conducted by Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina found that over 30 percent of respondents said that their health insurance company does not have their best interests in mind, according to WRAL News.
Half of consumers believe health insurance premiums are too high, while nearly a quarter of respondents believe that insurers are the ones to blame for the continued rise of health care costs. Last fall’s announcement that Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) would increase their premiums by 7.2 percent, impacting roughly 414,000 consumers, only added to this sentiment.
The article also references a blog post from Un-Covered that highlights the widening payer-provider gap, helping insurance companies rake in massive profits at the detriment of consumers.
CQC urges lawmakers and insurers to find solutions to make sure that insurance actually acts like insurance and work together so consumers can afford coverage and know that their insurance company has their best interest in mind.
