Choose your health care coverage carefully

A total of 137,000 Pennsylvanians became newly uninsured between February and May. With open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) underway, Pennsylvanians must be aware of the pitfalls that lurk when selecting health insurance.
Surprise bills are nothing new, but far too many Americans are getting hit with major unexpected costs for COVID-19 treatment and testing, despite federal mandates that consumers not be charged for these services. Short-term, limited-duration insurance plans, which have proliferated in the past two years, are exempt from many protections under the Affordable Care Act, including coverage for pre-existing conditions, as well as recently passed laws affecting health insurers during this pandemic.
