Dear Senator Warnock:

We thank you for prioritizing consumers through your introduction of S.3339 Capping Prescription Costs Act of 2021. Consumers for Quality Care (CQC), a coalition of advocates, former policy makers, and 28 patient and consumer advocacy organizations committed to providing a voice for patients in the health care debate, is pleased to support this important legislation.

The United States of America should be leaders in providing affordable, quality health care. To this end, it is critical that Congress protect patients from facing exorbitant costs for care and treatment – especially during times of great struggle such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

Passage of your legislation would be a major step forward for the nation. Enactment of the carefully considered caps that reduce maximum out-of-pocket spending for coverage would help address the deep concern that consumers have for the rising costs of health care. With only six states currently limiting out-of-pocket costs for prescription drugs, we commend you for your leadership in bringing this issue to the national debate. It is vital that Congress continually take a supportive role to ensure that we can all afford the prescriptions we need.
