Medicaid expansion is essential to cover all of Michigan’s vulnerable communities

A recent poll conducted by Consumers for Quality Care found that 56 percent of people agree that COVID-19 has shown racial disparities in our health care system, and more agree it has exposed disparities along wealth/class lines (75 percent). Despite this, some state and federal officials want to weaken access to Medicaid, a vital social safety net program for individuals and families – especially the most vulnerable – in times of crisis. If we haven’t already learned this from the Flint water crisis, the pandemic should have made it abundantly clear — Medicaid expansion must be a priority in Michigan to strengthen the entire state.
